And my painting teacher, who begs me to switch from graphic design to painting, was just beaming! I placed with a painting. One of my first paintings also. So I walk up and shake his hand, smile for the camera, and look at him - CHEESING out! So I'll have two pictures: one cute and one of me laughing at him. One of my favorite things about painting was being in Jackson's class.
First Week of Class
My last, first week of school. Knock on wood. Also my first week with my internship!
This semester my art classes are Print Making, Figure Drawing II, and Sculpture. Print Making with Sheri Reith will be such an interesting class. I've never taken any kind of print making but it seems very graphic to me and I'm so excited for it! Figure Drawing II will be just an extension of my July class. I finally have Durant again and for my second Sculpture class, we'll be taking a field trip to Home Depot! ... Yay sculpture. But I really am so excited for my art classes this semester.
Oh and update to my Figure Drawing I class! The final presentation day was so much fun. Carlyle had us sticker our favorite pieces out of everyone's portfolio ((check out all my stickers in the picture)) and also give overall awards. I won best overall portfolio!! It was great! Then to top that off I got an A, wooh!
Wednesday was my first day to intern with Vaughn Designs and it was awesome!! Jeremy had me working as I hit the door and it'll probably take me a little while to get use to his pace but I'm going to grow so much from this experience! He already found out that I can't spell... but hasn't fired me yet, ha... Photoshop needs to have a spell check. After only two hours of working I already had something to put in my portfolio - incredible. I spent most of my day Friday working on ads and posters and was so much more relaxed. Jeremy is such a great guy and I feel like I can learn so many things working for him. It's amazing that someone so young already owns such a successful agency and I feel privileged to be apart of it. I'm literally pinching myself that I'm having this opportunity to learn from such a great mentor while I'm still in school, plus get class credit. This is even better than what I hoped for.

Oh! Huge News!!!
I had an interview with a design firm on the square in Oxford this morning and I got it! I'll be interning with Vaughn Designs this year and I can not feel more right about this opportunity. This is exactly what I need to do, where I need to be, and who I need to be working with. I am looking forward to the fast pace work environment and want to exceed his expectations. This is my first real step for my professional career.
Check out they're amazing website!
Summer Soon!
lifeisridiculoussometimesiguess: PAINTING FRATERNITY COOLERS:
I will have time to paint and create!
Don't let this happen to you when you get asked to Old South or get a little sis! This summer, I can help!
I am working on a watercolored Swayze Field and will be doing some fraternity and sorority houses. Here is your golden opportunity to inspire me, or better, hire me! Shoot me an email or leave a comment =]
I will have lots of pictures soon of all the final projects I'm working on - this blog being one of them. It's been a great year, can't believe it's almost over!
Display in the Union
My work is hanging in the Union!!! Go grab some subway and halfway up the stairs take a moment lol! Such an awesome spot and honor. I'm so so excited. Seeing my work hanging and then watching people walk up to it and look at it, can not even begin how to tell you.
Sorry for the terrible quality pictures, took them with my phone. But even more reason to go see the real thing!
If anyone wants a print, email me!! I'm going to do the Phi Mu house soon for sure, but any other suggestions, I'm up for it.

And to add to that, I can't believe I have 3 weeks left of my junior year. Can not believe. I feel like I just got here! This time next year I'll be looking at job or masters options. Unreal, I don't feel that old.
But I'm so thankful. There are so many things I'm unsure of in life but I have no doubts when it comes to art. It has given me goals, drive, options, and I love it.
I'm really enjoying letterpress too. It's almost a relaxing, meditative process (when you're not doing it till 3 in the morning). Thankfully these were no where that painful. The quote is one of my favorites by Henry David Thoreau "Live the life you have imagined." They are greeting cards and I may also use them as invitations to view my work. Oh! And my work will be hung in the University of Mississippi's Student Union tomorrow!!!!! Supposedly everyone who was printing them loved them and wanted a print! Already awesome reviews, woohoo!
Addition ***
I got to take a break from painting for a grade! How nice, freedom! -- Well as much freedom as acrylic paint gives -- I surprised the teacher, who had us all painting flowers, when she walked around and saw mine... But she offered me a summer job so she must not have been too insulted!
Nope, I'm not going to comment on my self portrait. I want your mind to wander, why would I feed you the answers? Oh and anyone can leave a comment btw lol! I have so many people tell me they checked out my blog -- so tell me on here! =D

Well next week is spring break and it's going to be awesome! Intermediate Painting is really going to pick up when I get back. I'll have a self portrait and three other paintings to do outside of class for finals. Lots of things to look forward to but I need this week off!

Just writing a quick post before bed!
I'm SO excited!!!! The University of Mississippi had an art competition and the winners would have their work hung in the union along with a photo and bio. Well tonight I found out that all three of the works I entered were selected!!!!! I'm still kind of freaking out about it. What an honor!
I'll write more tomorrow, right now I need sleep.
Long Post
What is letterpress??
Google Definition: Printing from a hard, raised image under pressure, using viscous ink.
I had a polymer plate made instead of using lead type. Blocked in the plate and individually inked and pressed each card - twice for the second wing.
I got the full experience in letterpress last night -- from 7pm to 3am. My card is two colors and to line up that second wing of my butterfly is killer. Walking into class this morning was great though, everyone was leaned over looking at my drying cards. I didn't realize I was somewhat over achieving at something extremely difficult.
My next portrait is so difficult and I am seriously struggling haha! I don't know that I have ever learned more in a class. There is a lot of work to be done so don't judge too much!
NASAD is coming next week! The art department is going to be hopping. I've also gotten more works selected for the review! Nine projects of mine will be exhibited next week -- so cool!!
High Heal - 3D Art (don't know why I don't have a picture of it on here)
Dragon Book - Book Arts
Stationary System - Graphic Design I
Paws For Magic (book) - Graphic Design I
Final Project - Beginning Painting
Ole Miss Planner - Graphic Design II
Self Promotional Piece - Graphic Design II
Letterpress Business Cards - Letterpress
*** Edit***
Jackson, my current painting teacher, chose my portrait of Amber for the NASAD review! So so cool!!!
It's crazy walking around the gallery and seeing my name under paintings, sculpture, book arts, and graphics. Unbelievable and so encouraging!
** Also, now this painting is hanging as well! 3 paintings and I'm not a painter lol!

This class is crazy hard!!
I haven't taken figure drawing yet and still learning how to paint. Jackson has us painting models (clothed). I kinda feel like I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. It's so much fun though so I'm just going with it! It's not so bad right....? Long, long way to go on her though.
Tomorrow instead of meeting for class, we're going to Memphis on a field trip to an art museum. Pretty exited!! We leave campus at 1 and will get back around 9, hoping we could swing by the Rendezvous for dinner... I could make it happen.Oh kinda interesting side note but February 1st, I had 107 page views!!! Pretty awesome! Still doesn't top last April with 657 haha! Nice to see that more than my sweet grandparents check out my work =]

Skull (WIP) Media: Oil Paints 2012 |
My intermediate painting class is awesome. I don't know where I'm actually going to hang this skull painting... but it'll be great for halloween! That painting is a work in progress (WIP) but the coolest thing about this painting is that I got to build the frame, stretch the canvas, cover it in gesso, and then paint on it. Very, very cool. |
Pike also informed me that they will be using my t-shirt design for their posters too! So my design will be on people's backs and hanging all over campus!!
Terry Lee will also be printing my labels sometime next week and I'll be sipping on his wine! - pictures soon!
My dragon book was chosen to be submitted to the NASAD review so I'll have 3 works in the show, pretty freaking sweet.
Yall know anyone can comment on my posts! =]
I'd love to hear feedback!
Spring Semester
Third day of school and I'm already in love with my classes. I'm taking Letterpress, Web Design, Intermediate Painting, and Research and Writing this semester. I am so excited and obsessed with Letterpress! I feel like I'm going to learn so much in Web Design and I really, surprisingly, enjoy painting. Now... Research and Writing is already overwhelming me. I have a paper due tomorrow - on 50 pieces in the gallery - full description and critique for each. When I look around in that class, I swear I'm the youngest in there too! Slightly unnerving. You see, people in there have taken it 2 or 3 times... I refuse for that to be me. But I'm almost through with it and don't have Friday classes.
Pike asked me to design their philanthropy t-shirt! I get a free one and I'm actually going to get payed, pretty sweet deal! It comes in long and short sleeve, the Greek letters are on the pocket, image on the back - support or participate!

Prayer Request
I have a prayer request.
I was born in Memphis and lived there till I was almost three. My mom and dad worked and my second cousin babysat me. Caroline (Lina) took care of me and we instantly had a bond. She told me the other day that she'd take me outside only in my diaper, give me paper and paint, and let me make a mess then clean me up before my mom got back - my mom doesn't know that story. Caroline is an amazing artist and also did my first portrait and to this day it's one of my favorite paintings.
Since then we'd have family Christmas' together but in the past 5 to 6 years I really haven't gotten to see that part of my family. I should take much more advantage of living in Oxford and being 45 minutes away.
For New Years, my friends and I went to the Peabody. It was a great night until the end... at 3 a.m. Caroline and Greg came and picked me up and were so sweet to me after I had woken them up. The next day I got to show Lina all of my art I've been doing in college. I've really missed her.
A person who has always inspired me. Encouraged me. And was probably the first person to give me a paint brush. Please have her in your prayers. I love my Lina.

Katherine Fields,
What a great Christmas present right?? For my grandparents, I'm sure they'll love it! Prints of these will also be going in stores soon.
These would look great in a dorm room, apartment, and home. If you're interested email me at bfyerger@olemiss.edu
--- Also I may be doing one of the Phi Mu house (great for your little!)
NASAD
Oh my gosh! I just found out my teacher, Wes, picked two of my paintings to send to the NASAD review!!! Ah!!!!! The National Association of Schools for Arts and Design - big. Big. He's sending my painting of my grandmother's house and that tea pot that he loves! I'm so surprised and honored!! He's going to frame them and send them in! Just unreal.

Painting Final 18''x24'' Oil Paint |
My final for painting was a huge success! It looks much better in person. The theme was create a narrative and supposedly it was the most successful in the class. I learned so much about light while painting this, so interesting. So that presentation was yesterday, but today one of the painting professors in the Art Department stopped me. He told me that I should not stop painting and that my piece was the best in the class. I almost cried, he was so sweet to go out of his way to tell me that.
I worked so hard in both of those classes and I really feel that they payed off. I had the best and most supportive professors, not only in painting and graphics but every art class this semester. I've learned so much in just 18 weeks and can't believe I'm in the BFA program; I'm doing exactly what I've always dreamed and wanted.
New Look!
Totally redid everything! Still working on it though... Can't wait to take Web Design next semester b/c I'll know how to read and type my own crazy html codes, life will be easier.
I actually really love my Color Theory final project. I've uploaded my wine bottle labels from Graphics II also so slowly catching up on all I've done. Most of my new art is posted in "Photo-imaging'' at the top of the page. My final for Graphics will be in tomorrow so I'll have that photographed and loaded soon! Also all my origami butterflies and their carrying folders will be in too!! I'm super excited!!!!

Updates
Almost Thanksgiving break!!! I have so much art to upload! I can't wait to have all of my art up from Beginning Painting and Graphic Design II - its looking good. Dont think I'll load anything from Color Theory cause its just the basics like color wheels and shifts, nothing too impressive. My final for Graphics is stressing my teacher out but I think I can do it lol! I'm in the BFA now so it has to be something awesome!
I'll say more later. And I can't wait to redesign this blog.....!
Leave you with my latest oil!
